How do I know my shingles are dried out?

Asphalt roofs usually start showing signs of aging after five to ten years depending on region and environmental conditions. The shingle’s granular coating starts washing into the gutters as the essential oils dry up, losing the ability to hold the granular in place. Greener Shingles Canada's bio-based rejuvenation product was tested and proven to have a 86% better granular adhesion on treated shingles versus untreated.

When used as a roof maintenance product, Greener Shingles increases shingle flexibility, helps keep granular in place, helps protect the surface, suffocate moss, and improves fire resistance, preserving and rejuvenating the shingles to last longer, keeping them on your roof where they belong. What is it made out of?

Soy bean oil-based rejuvenators have been used to rejuvenate asphalt parking lots and roadways for the past fifteen years. Greener Shingles has adapted that same rejuvenator to extend the life span of asphalt shingles.

Greener Shingles Rejuvenator has been lab tested and field proven to decrease the affect of hail damage, makes asphalt shingles 40% more flame resistant, and improves granular adhesion by 86%.

Does It Work?

Greener Shingles is a powerful, scientifically formulated treatment derived from soybean oil. This plant-based oil quickly penetrates deep into brittle asphalt roofing shingles.

The powerful all-natural formulation quickly restores your roof's flexibility and further protection, while also reducing the loss of the shingle's protective top granule coating.

FAQs

Q: What temperatures are required to put this on my roof?

A: Typically we suggest the temperature be at least 4 to 5 degrees Celsius above freezing and rising with no rain in the forecast for 1 hour.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: There are a few different factors that determine the cost of an application. Check out our Services page to learn more about the cost of applying Greener Shingles to your roof to rejuvenate and extend the life of your shingles or click here to request an estimate.

Q: Does Greener Shingles change the colour of the shingles?

A: No, the colour of the shingles will darken, similar to what it was like when new, but the colour will not change from red to black. Within a couple of years, the shingles will start to lighten up as the surface oils begin to oxidize off.

Q: Does this help with moss and algae growing on my roof?

A: We suggest cleaning the roof first, then rejuvenating your shingles with Greener Shingles. Any moss or algae left will be smothered and killed.

Q: Is Greener Shingles safe?

A: Greener Shingles is made with 90% bio-based natural food-grade oils. It is safe in small quantities, easily washed off with water. However, like water in a flood, it's not 100% safe, but is safe around pets, plants and people. Learn more from the manufacturers at www.greenershingles.com

Q: What does the warranty cover?

A: Our five-year prorated warranty covers the fact that Greener Shingles will extend the life of the shingle five years past the expected life of the shingle in the environment they are in, by applying our rejuvenation system to your shingles that have 70% or more granulation remaining to retain that granulation. Some owners want to slow the aging process on older shingles. Depending on how old they are, we may not be able to warranty a shingle that is starting to show signs of extreme aging, like when the shingles are starting to curl up. The warranty is transferable to the next homeowner.

Q: How do I know if my shingles need rejuvenation?

A: Typically shingles that are ten years old start to show signs of aging, granular loss and could use rejuvenation before they start to curl up and become brittle. To schedule a free roof assessment click here.
